The Super Man Tie
There was just a humorous thing that happened during sacrament meeting a few weeks ago. We were sitting there listening to testimonies (it being fast and testimony meeting), when we all were thrown off guard. There was a man who always wears jeans and a jacket to church. I unfortunately cannot remember his name, but he is very nice. On my first Sunday there, I heard him talk about how he'll never wear anything but jeans to church- just because that's "the type of man he is". Anyways, he stood up and started his testimony by saying, "I did something today that I haven't done for 30 years. The Bishop may have a heart attack." We all sat there in suspense. I was worried that he was going to say something that the little kiddies shouldn't hear or something (I guess you somehow feel more responsible for what the people say at the pulpit when you're a missionary, so this leads to a lot of anxiety on fast sundays). Much to our surprise, he quickly zipped down his jacket to reveal a tie! He then said, "It took me almost half an hour to tackle this thing". Everyone in the congregation was so excited to see such a sight! Here was a man who had just recently started going back to church. And here was a man who was taking little steps to show his Heavenly Father his love for Him. I'll never forget the joy that man had on his face as he showed us his tie. Not only did he remind me of super man by the way he quickly unzipped his tie, but he reminded me of a man who knew he had to change in order to help serve others. Here was a man who was beginning to recognize the power within him to change.
